The Fill Tool lets you draw a simple color gradient across your object. The created fill path can be edited directly on the object to introduce more than two colors along the gradient path, introduce opacity, reposition added colors or control color transitions. You can also apply a more complex gradient via a Gradient Editor.

Craft perfect vector curves or combine objects and shapes using complex Boolean operations. You can also create abstract shapes or an offset path with the powerful contour tool. I found some of the features even more comfortable to use on iPad, especially being able to move and rotate the canvas with my fingers. I’m happy I chose the iPad to create the last piece as I knew Affinity Designer quite well by then so I just enjoyed the process and it was really fast and smooth:) The gradient tool is my favourite! Enrol on this course and find out just how well I can answer these questions. I've been a designer for nearly 30 years. I've spent thousands of hours working in various design studios and now I'm bringing that experience to Affinity Designer for the iPad. Over the years I've learned what matters when you are creating good design and what doesn't.

If needed, you can precisely define the fill path via the color swatch on the tool's context toolbar. This should be done with no handles selected.

Draw colour and transparency gradients separately or as part of the same gradient. Affinity Designer for iPad tutorials Watch our collection of short video tutorials to help you get started with Affinity Designer for iPad. Magnifying glass icon to highlight a search field.

You can also apply a gradient to pixel layers, adjustment layers and layer masks using the Fill Tool.

When you scale or shear an object with a linear, radial or conical gradient applied, the gradient will reapply itself to fit the modified object's new shape. This is important when transforming two-dimensional objects onto an isometric grid plane as the gradient will also be intelligently transformed. On a transformed object, an additional dashed correction path and stop is shown (far right) which indicates gradient transformation and allows you to control the shear and scale on the fill—the path and stop can be removed to ignore the gradient transform if needed.

Just as feature-packed as the desktop version, Affinity Designer for iPad is a professional graphic design app with everything you need to create stunning illustrations, branding, icons, UI/UX designs, print projects, typography, concept art and much more — all completely free from the confines of your desk!
