Microsoft Office & Office 365. So do you buy the Microsoft Office 2019 productivity suite or opt for the subscription-based Office 365? Well, both are great options and it all boils down to your business needs. Overview With a subscription to Microsoft 365, you can get: The latest Office apps, like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. The ability to install on PCs, Macs, tablets, and phones.

Caution: The use of OneNote has been known to cause significant problems when you leave the university (i.e., issues with the data extraction of notes). To avoid the potential for data loss, the ITS Collaboration Services team recommends using Google Docs instead.

Using the Online Applications

Installing Microsoft Office 365 Personal

To use the Office 365 online applications:

  1. Go to portal.office.com.
  2. At the Microsoft sign-in prompt, enter your UMICH email address (i.e., janemcard@umich.edu).
  3. At the next screen, sign in using your UMICH password.

Note: You will not use the U-M Weblogin screen. Look for the U-M Office 365 logo to ensure you are logging in to the correct location.
  1. Authenticate with Duo, if prompted.

You will be taken to the Office 365 site, where you can use various online applications.
